Death of Benjamin F. CHANCE
Benjamin Franklin CHANCE, son of Perry and Alpha Jane CHANCE, was born in Pike Co., Indiana May 4, 1856 and died at his home near Knox, on July 18, 1920 at the age of 64 years, 2 months and 14 days.
When only a small child, his parents moved to Gilson, Illinois, returning to Indiana when he was five years old, settling on a farm near North Judson.
There he grew to man's estate uniting with the United Brethen church when he was 20 years old, which faith he held until his death. On May 2, 1878 he was united in marriage to Ella M. WERNER. Seven children came to bless this long and happy union: one son, the eldest, Jossie Emerson, preceded the father to the Great Beyond by 19 years.
Shortly after his marriage, he and his faithful companion moved to their own home where he passed away, having lived there continously for 39 years. He was an old an faithful member of Odd Fellow Lodge, having been a member for 35 years.
Those left to mourn his death are his loving wife and companion; two sons, Bennie C., of Brems, and Sammie E. on the home place; four daughters, Mrs. Dollie LONG, of Gary; Mrs. Lizzie DAVIS, of Watsonville, California; Misses Effie and Rosa CHANCE; one sister, Mrs. Theresia CHAPMAN, of Knox; fourteen grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services are being held this (Wednesday) afternoon from the Methodist church in charge of the local I. O. O. F. Lodge. Rev. Kenna officating. Burial will be made in Oak Park cemetery.
