in La Porte County IN. He married CATHERINE JANE SILLS April 15, 1847 in La
Porte County IN. She was born 1820 in New York, and died February 25, 1865
in La Porte County IN.
Notes for JACOB BICKLE:
Much of the information I have for Jacob Bickle came from census and
marriage records in La Porte County Indiana. Also cemetery records from Oak
Grove Cemetery in La Porte Indiana where Jacob and Catherine his wife are
buried and information from the Marshall County Library furnishes by Tom
and Pat Conrad of Marshall County. To date I have been unable to trace
his ancestors or his exact place of birth. His grave marker list his date
of death as June 16 1897 and that he was 83 years 5 months and 10 days old
at the time of his death, and from this I arrived at his date of birth.
According to marriage records Jacob and Catherine were married in 1847 in
La Porte County and their first child was born in 1849. The 1850 Indiana
census does not show Jacob and his family. The 1860 La Porte County census
show Jacob, Catherine, and four children. Jacob born in Ohio, his wife
Catherine born in New York, and their four children all being born in
Indiana. A Jacob Bickle bought land in Marshall County in 1844 according
to Land Records in the Marshall County Library. I believe this Jacob Bickle
in Marshall County is the Jacob Bickle who married Catherine Sills.
Catherine died in 1865 but Jacob and their four children were listed in the
1870 census in La Porte County. An interesting item in the Marshall County
Library is a Bible "The MINIATURE QUARTO BIBLE THE NEW TESTAMENT"
which has several notes saying "Jacob Bickle bought this Bible from
Victor Collet in the year of our Lord 1865 for the price of 10 dollars in
Gold" All entries mention the 10 dollars in Gold.

Notes for CATHERINE JANE SILLS:
To date I have been unable to find ancestors of Catherine. According to the
1860 La Porte County census she was born in New York. She married Jacob
Bickle in La Porte County in 1847. The 1850 census for Wabash County, Largo
Township has George Sills age 65, wife Mary age 46? hard to read,both born
in PA. Children Michael age17, William 13, Samuel 12,Christopher 10, Daniel
8, and Rebecca 5 all born in Ohio which would indicate they came to Indiana
after 1845. If the age for Mary is correct it is possibly a second wife and
Catherine could be a child of the first wife. I haven't anything to connect
George's family with Catherine except that Wabash, Marshall and LaPorte
Counties are in the same general area.
